The thing I realize now is that there is nothing magical about what Putin, Trump and the GOP have achieved in the overthrow of America. Given the trajectory of the GOP and the unholy alliance of the billionaire class with fundamentalist death-cult Christianity and white racism/resentment we were going to wind up with a fascist government sooner or later. What we have witnessed is simply a perfect storm that tipped the balance towards fascism at a time when much of America had grown complacent in the era of Obama.
However, that it so happens that Benedict Donald is at the head of the fascist state now that it has arrived is actually a boon to humanity. The hidden blessing of having such a corrupt, stupid, venal, hated and already criminal President at such a moment cannot be overstated. A man as vulnerable, as hated, and as stupid as our Cheetolini may never come along again. We must take advantage of this moment of opportunity to squash the fascist drive in America for many generations. All hands on deck.
The Trump family must be driven out of our polity now and forever. The GOP needs to be voted out of power for many, many years, perhaps decades. Leaches, traitors and racists such as McConnell, Ryan, Nunes, Grassley, King, Graham, Rohrabacher, Chaffetz, Sessions, Flynn, Manafort, Stone, Miller, DeVos, Prince, the Mercers, Adelson etc. need to be driven out of positions of governance, the shaping of policy, and brought before the justice system to the point of imprisonment wherever appropriate. People of good faith everywhere must empty the pews of churches where the fascist/racist tendency is not actively named and countered by its leadership. Never again should we let America be thrown into this level of hatred, division, corruption, blackmail, greed, malice and treason that threatens our nation, threatens the functioning of peaceable society everywhere and perhaps, in the age of nukes, threatens the very survival of humanity.
Let us come face to face with the truth that we all have failed in allowing the state of our nation to come to this. But let us also be resolved that we will do whatever it takes to fight this fascist take over and drive it out from our national life. Let us be resolved that as long as we live we will fight and overcome the fascist and racist impulse within America. Fascism must not win in America. Not now and not ever again.
